Let Me Explain

How I got here, what I know, and why it might matter to you.

Welcome to Low Key Important.

I wasn’t supposed to be here…the fashion industry, that is.

Retail → drugstore and clothing management → mass market. I’ve worked with domestic and international vendors, small Black-owned brands, and interned with names you know: Christopher John Rogers, Sheena from Abacaxi, Raeana Anaïs, J. Cole’s former stylist and design director and now her namesake collection. I went to school with Drew from Dylan Lex (miss you, hit me up when you’re in NY)…and that’s all fine and good but…so what?

I’ve worked in the garment district producing small runs, and in mass production pushing out way too many (not-so-great) SKUs from the Far East. But before all of that, I was just a girl from Baltimore (Pumphrey) backed by a lot of love and very non intentional dreams. I didn’t know how to read a magazine masthead, let alone execute a photoshoot, when I headed off to my southern HBCU. As a first-generation college grad, I was creative and full of potential, but I had no clear sense of where to go or what to do.

Now I’m part of a “small”, private designer luxury brand called Tibi, quietly holding down my corner of the internet. IYKYK.

I didn’t come through the usual access points. Fashion school after a rejection. Graduated into a recession. Took the jobs that taught me survival first, realizing my student loans later outweighed the hype and the pay.

But alas, here I am. And what I have to say is low key important…

It feels like the right time to slow down, recalibrate, and make space for everything I’ve learned and everything I’m still learning.

This is for anyone who cares about fashion but sometimes feels outside of it. Who’s into styling or being styled. Parenting. Or just steady takes on real life without the gatekeeping.

Here’s how it’s set up:

• The Shows — Simple takes on runway collections, designer histories, cultural references. From major houses to the ones people overlook.

• Fashion Monster Icon — Toddler style and millennial mom style (cue the sarcasm). Parenting meets getting dressed and figuring it out. Inspired by my daughter, bc aren’t all icons kind of monstrous, and all monsters kind of iconic?

• Come Through — Notes on grief, weight loss, spiritual shifts. Writing through the things people don’t always post about, but shape how we move through life.

• No Big Deal — New projects, updates, industry things, and my lane at Tibi. Behind-the-scenes, little flexes, things worth knowing about.

• Fluency Guide — Designer histories, wardrobe strategies, fashion business context. Building real industry fluency without gatekeeping.

What to Expect

For now: once a week posts.
